Artist of the Month: Julian Charrière

This month, we spotlight Julian Charrière, a visionary artist whose work bridges nature, technology, and time. Known for his striking interdisciplinary practice, Charrière transforms raw materials into thought-provoking sculptures, films, and installations that challenge our perception of environmental change.

One of his most compelling works, Metamorphism, involved melting digital debris—iPhones, hard drives, and other remnants of our tech-driven era—into molten rock, creating eerie geological artifacts that blur the boundaries between past and future. Through this process, Charrière prompts us to reconsider the materials that sustain our digital world and the environmental cost of modern technology.

Recently honored with the Eric and Wendy Schmidt Environment and Art Prize, Charrière continues to push the limits of artistic inquiry. His work, often created in extreme ecological sites such as volcanoes, glaciers, and radioactive zones, serves as a poetic yet urgent reflection on human impact and planetary resilience.
